About us:

Callaghan’s English Soccer Camps were founded in 1993 when Englishman Ed Callaghan produced his first summer soccer camps in Colorado. Having just completed our 15th summer of camps, we believe we have a fantastic camp program which is second to none! We are firmly committed to producing work of a top-class standard and we strive to make each camp a positive, rewarding and enjoyable experience for all our players.

Our coaching philosophy is based around the simple premise that you should always

"cherish possession of the ball above all else"

From our unique "guided discovery" philosophy for youngsters and beginners, to our "total soccer" philosophy for club and select players, we will teach ALL our players the value of good control, passing and decision making. Our goal is to make them become complete players over a long period. We do not have a win at all costs attitude! But one that believes in sound fundamental coaching in technique and tactics, which will produce a greater talent in players, as they get older!

Staff:

The most vital aspect of our summer camp program is of course our coaching staff!

We are now lucky enough to have an extensive backdrop of coaches to choose from, who are all fully qualified (UEFA B license minimum) and practice their art during the winter months, both here in the USA and in England with professional clubs "soccer in the community schemes".

During the summer we hand-select some of these coaches to travel around the States and coach for us in the many different communities that we visit.

What Can I Expect At Camp?

For many potential campers, picking a soccer camp to attend in the summer is a tough process. One question that always goes unanswered beforehand is:

"What can I expect during the camp session"

We have put together a typical session at our half-day camps.

9-9.30am: Super skills, ball familiarity and improving control and confidence.

9.30-10.15am: Individual skills, learn to master the art of soccer’s essentials. Control, passing, dribbling, and shooting, and most importantly how and when to use them.

10.15-10.45am: Micro soccer, small space practices, games with more emphasis on decision-making and tactical awareness.

10.45-11am: During the week we introduce our "stand-up spotlight" and week long "off the ball" competition.

11-11.30am: Small-sided games; the progression of how soccer’s individual skills need to be translated into full game type situations.

11.30-12noon: The Cup Final; the culmination of the day’s work and how everything fits together in a competitive full game.

We have a wide variety of different programs we can offer each community - from 3 hour half day camps (mainly for beginners and intermediate players) to full day programs, designed for players looking to enhance and improve their technical and tactical ability. We help players focus on  mental preparedness, and increase their understanding of playing in and against different systems of play!

WHAT THEY SAID:

Here are a few letters and quotes from camp participants, parents and coordinators from our 2008 camps.

Dear Ed,

We hope your camps are continuing to be successful. Sorry we are so slow in thanking you for the great experience you gave our kids this year. We do hope to make it bigger and better (well, I'm not sure you could get much better) each year. We really enjoyed getting to know you and feel grateful to include you in our list of friends. Thanks again so much for all you did not only for the soccer kids, but for your great example to my sons. It is always a great help to parents to have someone like you to add to their list of heroes and people to admire. Since this camp Benjamen hardly leaves a soccer ball alone. He is constantly rolling it around the house, etc. Even at meal time we sometimes have to remind him that he can eat without a ball. And Joseph chose to pass up playing high school football (thank goodness) to play one more year of city league soccer since our recreation director has sort of messed soccer up this year. We are still fighting an uphill battle to keep soccer alive and growing here in Salina, but it is a fight worth fighting. Anyway we are all well and healthy and we hope and pray you are all well and healthy. Give our love to the family. And tell Gerry (and Craig if you hear from him) hi from all of us. God bless. Love, Jan Porras and family (435) 529 7779
